I had a chance to see Laurel Nakadate’s show at MoMA PS1 today and really loved it! I had seen some of her photographs before but especially the video-pieces were great. Highly recommend in case you should happen to be in NYC some time in the next few months. The show is still on until August 8th.

“Strangers In Transist” by Anna Brooks.

“A short film celebrating the unremarkable shapes that usually go unnoticed amongst the commotion of the London Underground. Two passengers traveling the central line find themselves locked in each others grip for the duration of their journey. The unseen crowd dictate their movements around the carriage placing them in awkward and intimate positions with each other. The recognizable sounds and noises of the underground emphasise the rhythm and monotonous nature of the tube.”

Gregor Schneider is a German artist, whose main area of work is constructed rooms. For his piece “Die Familie Schneider”, he turned two neighbouring disused houses in an East London street into the setting for an almost theatrical performance piece. Both houses were furnished identically and as the viewers were asked to enter each house on their own, they encountered several actors - one woman doing the dishes endlessly, a man in the shower and a motionless body besides the bed. The exact same scenes in each building. The actors were all played by identical twins and seemingly not taking notice of the visitors.
