Gregor Schneider is a German artist, whose main area of work is constructed rooms. For his piece “Die Familie Schneider”, he turned two neighbouring disused houses in an East London street into the setting for an almost theatrical performance piece. Both houses were furnished identically and as the viewers were asked to enter each house on their own, they encountered several actors - one woman doing the dishes endlessly, a man in the shower and a motionless body besides the bed. The exact same scenes in each building. The actors were all played by identical twins and seemingly not taking notice of the visitors.
